Overview

In this edition of RME Hot Seat, Drs. Amy Middleman, Tamera Coyne-Beasley, and Joseph Bocchini, Jr. answer your clinical questions on topics relating to adolescent vaccination. Among the topics addressed are current vaccination recommendations, cervical cancer and HPV vaccination, use of influenza vaccines, overcoming vaccine hesitancy in parents, and countering common vaccination myths. The activity also includes downloadable information relating to adolescent vaccination.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of pediatricians and primary care providers—physicians, nurse practitioners (NPs), and physician assistants (PAs)—involved in providing vaccinations to adolescents at risk for communicable diseases.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe routine recommendations for vaccination of adolescents based on the current Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) guidelines
  • Identify adolescents who are at increased risk for vaccine-preventable diseases and thus should be vaccinated
  • Describe the different vaccines licensed in the United States for adolescents
  • Provide solutions to patients and physicians to improve vaccination rates
