Overview

In recent years, treatments for invasive bladder cancers have evolved significantly. Platinum-based chemotherapies are yielding to targeted immunotherapies, which has resulted in improved outcomes and updates to treatment guidelines for locally advanced or metastatic urothelial cancer. Additionally, immunotherapies are showing promising results in the perioperative setting in studies of patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer. A significant challenge in using immunotherapies, however, is that they are associated with unique, sometimes life-threatening, adverse events (AEs) that may require monitoring or multidisciplinary team management.

This edition of Scale, Bail, or Fail reviews the most recent advancements in bladder cancer immunotherapy and the strategies for managing immunotherapy-related toxicity.
